Hula Hoops: Golden Hoops
Sister agency InboxDMG built a UGC campaign website for Hula Hoops. The site ran alongside the Hula Hoops TV activity and contained a video competition where consumers were invited to make and upload their own version of the TV advert. The campaign ran for six months and the best five videos as selected by the judges won a holiday to Hollywood.
The site used a proven community mechanic where new content was added to a page behind the scenes, and users of the site then voted their favourite films on the homepage for more general review. This created an engaging experience for the users where the quality of content on the site was controlled by the community themselves.
An online advertising campaign supporting the site was carried out to attract the campaign's core target audience to the site, but Viralnet was asked to create a viral seeding campaign that was intended to attract high volumes of generic users who would be more likely to interact with the viral element of the site. This was crucial in order for the site’s voting mechanic to function correctly and deliver the right experience for the users.
Throughout the campaign, the Viralnet activty successfully delivered over 100,000 users to the site from editorial placements in various entertainment sites, blogs and email newsletters and also included a targeted Facebook postcard campaign that tested different creatives against different demographic groups and delivered the most responsive Facebook users to the campaign.
